Introduction About the contributor: Transgender Europe (TGEU) is an European umbrella organisation working towards equality of trans people in Europe. TGEU is registered as NGO under German law and has 75 member organizations in 38 European countries to date. TGEU enjoys participatory status with the Council of Europe and is member to the Fundamental Rights Platform, the social platform and ILGA - the International Organisation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association. Our website: www.tgeu.org About the contribution: TGEU presents a collection of transphobic hate crimes and hate incidents that took place during 2014 and were recorded and verified by TGEU and its partner organisations. Most of the cases were documented within the framework of the ProTrans project. The project was initiated in late 2013 and has been financed by the US Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. The project started in early 2014 with several partner meetings, where an online monitoring system has been developed and implemented by project partners with the technical expertise of HURIDOCS. Participating organizations were trained on its usage and hate crime monitoring and started documenting discriminatory and violent incidents against transgender persons domestically in the framework of the project. In conjunction with the monitoring, project partners have offered community-based psycho-social support services and legal aid for survivors of violence and increased knowledge about possibilities for redress among trans people. The present report contains information from the following project partners: - Gayten-LGBT, Serbia (www.transserbia.org) - GENDERDOC-M, Moldova (www.lgbt.md/eng) - Labrys Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyzstan (www.labrys.kg) - Red Umbrella, Turkey (www.labrys.kg) More information, including analysis of data and project publications are available on the project website: www.tgeu.org/pro-trans The report also builds on the Trans Murder Monitoring project (TMM) of TGEU, a systematic collection, monitoring and analysis of reported killings of gender-variant/trans people worldwide.
